I have searched and searched for info on the cable clutch conversion. I have learned a lot on here and I thank you guys for that. I didn't find any info on these headers though. Mac Performance - performance accessories for cars, trucks, and motorcycles I want to get the chrome ones(on a budget like most others) and do the mustang steve cable clutch conversion too. Anyone have any experience with these headers and the cable clutch? Anyone want to suggest a header that for-sure works with the cable conversion other than the ford powertrain high dollar ones. Think low cost if you could.

Hey, I'm just starting to consider the MustangSteve setup as well. What is the cost on those Ford Powertraing headers?

I think your looking at $550 for the uncoated FPT headers. That is the main reason I am looking at the hyd setup. I don't want to buy a $300+/- set of headers and find out it won't work with the cable clutch setup.

Call FPT, they will tell you if it will work or not. We have ordered two sets of their headers (for a 67 and a 68) and they are absolutley the best headers we have ever installed. THey fit great, fantastic ground clearance. But-you will pay. Worth every cent from our experiance.

OK, I looked over the MustangSteve cable kit, lots of options. Haven't looked in awhile. I see now that FPT has a set of headers designed for the kit. Pretty cool. If I can get FPT headers that won't melt the cable, then I think this would be a viable option.

Patriot Exhaust H8433-1 - Patriot Clippster Headers - summitracing.com

These headers are mid length. I wonder if there would be an issue with the cable clutch? Anyone try these yet?

We put those headers on one car a couple years ago. The passenger side header points straight back at the toe board (unless they have since changed the design...) and makes that side more of a challange to hook up the exhaust. THe fit good otherwise. And do provide a good deal of clearance.
I know we put a T-5 in that car, but cannot remember what we did for a clutch setup...geez.
Here is a picture of the RH header...

I was reading in my summit catalog and it states that the patriot headers are for classic cars with modern suspension. Does that mean they wont clear the shock towers? If you installed them in a basicaly stock suspension car then I guess they fit. Could you check into that for me? I really need to get this header/clutch thing figured out. If you can't tell, I am really wanting a cable setup cause I can do it for about half the cost of hyd.

THat motor went into a 65 FB. Not sure what they mean about modern suspension. THat car had stock (new) suspension.

I called my business partner, we put a Z bar setup in that car. I remember now, cause the 65 has a pivit on the top of the Z bar and the 66 setup does not. No fitment problems at all with these headers and a Z bar. THat would be the cheapest and easiest I think. ANd that car also got a T-5 trans. We used the stock bell, and added the spacer plate for the trans.

Are those the Patriot Clipster #8433? Those headers don't appear to be the current version of the Clipster. The current version has both the 1 and 2 cylinder pipes inside of the 3 and 4. Yours shows the 1 and 3 inside. The current version also points down at an angle (the DS more so) on both DS and PS headers.
Here is the Summit pic of 8433:

I also want to know if anyone has tried these as I may eventually change my current HiPo manifolds. I have the Ron Morris cable clutch setup. I think the early Falcons may have interference with the steering box/pitman arm with these, but they do seem to clear the cable entrance into the bellhousing that the tri-y and many other longtube setups have problems with. The Patriot (Pertronix) catalog (Pg 7) lists the dimensions as a 13" drop on both sides from top of the head flange to bottom of exhaust flange. The header moves back 17" on the DS from foremost tip of the header flange (#5 cyl) to rearmost tip of the exhaust flange and 24" on the PS, so the PS does aim further back. I wish I had time to make a cardboard mockup and see if these dimensions fit.

An update on my previous post: Here is a set of headers on Ebay also called Patriot Clipster 8433 that look exactly like yours.

These are heavily wrapped so you do lose a little detail, but these do show the PS as being nearly straight back and the #1 and #3 as being inside, #2 and 4 as being outside. I hope this is the older version since all the parts houses and Patriot's own catalog show the PS as angled down now, with better clearance of the shock tower and aiming between floorboard and ground not right at the firewall. Hope this clarifies things. The new ones look like a better fit for our Mustangs.

THat car was restored almost three years ago. So the headers are at least that old-were ordered that long ago. THe new ones DO look a lot better. I know the PS gave us a fit back then. I don't know the part number. I can pull the file monday and see. Pretty sure we did get them from Summit. I still have the article on the shelf I copied frm a magazine that showed these headers as a new product.

The new Patriot Clipster looks an awful lot like the JBA 1650 midlength headers (which do work with the cable clutch). Anyone know if they are the same dimensions (other than the JBA 2 1/2" collector which I prefer to the Clipster 3" for street SBFs).
