i was told that you should be carefull when driving through water with a cai. that it is not good if the water gets to it in the fender. is this tru and exactly what happens if water does get to it.
 
Well, living in Oregon I can answer that.. I have not noticed any difference. I still go barrelling through puddles of water that don't look deep but really are.. causes the car to damn near lose control, but no difference as far as the intake. It rains 9 months out of the year here, and lots of people still put in chrome intakes, so it's not a big deal.
 
If you get water sucked into the ENGINE say bye bye to those RODS and buy a new engine.......since water can`t be compressed it will produce a pinging sound and grind or bend the rods.So yes be carefull going into deep water-it is not recomended.
 
Ok...I live in FL I drove through the storms and no problems...now unless you have a intake that goes thru the fender and turns all the way down almost to the floor then you just might be in trouble at times but if the filter is rite at the hole at the fender then you shouldnt have ne problems as long as everything is tightened and the filter doesnt fall out when driving

kinda like a ram air intake or just one inside the engine bay instead of the fender like you see on imports alot...my dads H2 has a AIRAID Intake and it goes to the fender but stops along the inside with a heat shield behind it and one on the right side like on the new 2005 GT BBK intake
 
By the way if you are asking because you're thinking of getting an intake, you should be aware that on a V6, the performance gain is hardly noticable. I'm not saying don't get one; I have one myself, but to me it's mostly for looks. There will be a very small bump up in power, and your fuel MPG may get a little better, but that's about it. But, every little bit helps, right?
 
As far as performance goes? I dunno, mine's a BBK, not an ebay knockoff.. I got all my mods done at the same time. (CAI, Flowmasters, throttle body spacer.) I have a G-tech meter, and I did before & after 0-60 on a level road. Before all the mods, the best I could do was 0-60 in 8.97 seconds. After, I did it in 7.9 seconds. Still slow as s***, but it made a difference. My nephew wants me to go to the track and pay $30 to take it down the 1/4 mile. Why, so I can get laughed off the track??:rlaugh:
 
CAI works better after your exhaust is done...work from the back to the front...you cant take in more air with a restricted setup..so get a nice catback....Xpipe or Hpipe....then headers if you want.....CAI....throttle body and your set on a full exhaust setup...everything works off eachother so missing one misses out on HP...and as for a intake doing nothing or cant feel it....for me not true...I could feel and hear it not to mention I noticed my car was running cooler then b4...a ebay intake is fine you just need a Good filter such as MAC and K&N...ive seen a BBK intake on a 05 GT give it like 16 HP and like 9 HP on a 99-04 V6....pends on the setup like i said and conditions...only a dyno can tell you the truth
 
The water thing is, like some other people said, for the intakes that go down into the front bumper- actually where our stock one is. These actually work better because they don't suck the hot air in the engine bay in- they suck in cooler air- which is also why replacing the intake on our cars doesn't make that much of a difference- because they are already sucking in "colder" air, which is the whole point.
