I'm going to be moving from NB to Calgary in the next month or so. I'm going to get a cell phone here before I leave with a Calgary # so that I can have it on the drive out as well as when I'm living there. Who has the best coverage in Calgary? Telus or Rogers? Are there any other cell phone companies out there? I was checking at Radio Shack here who goes through Rogers and they have a free phone, with no up front charge, and a lot more minutes than Telus at the same price. With Telus, I would have to pay for the phone up front and then it would be credited on my bill, and a lot less minutes. What are your experiences with either of these companies? Thanks in advance.

If I were you I would between Telus and Bell Mobility.
Telus has the towers and coverage, and Bell has a contract with Telus to use the same towers. Plus Bell has more coverage in BC and Ontario.
Other then that it comes down to what type of plan you are looking for.
I've never been a fan of Rogers, I've never dealt with them directly but I've heard a lot of complaints about coverage.
Whatever you do go with, try to find a store that has a great warrenty or one that sells extended warrenty (Future Shop, London Drugs) because cell phones have a tendency to just suddenly cut out. I work cash and cust. service at F.S. and I exchange at least 1 phone a day just because they decided to stop working, screen blanks out, etc.

No matter what anyone says, telus has the best reception. Fido, rogers and bell all are worse. Example. At the U of C in certain areas, only Telus works at all. Same as at my house by Sait, my telus has full singal, perfect, the bell drops calls.

Telus are thieving crooks though, charge by the minute and try and screw you anyway they can (long stories ;) ). Bell business plans are still by the second, but only after the first minute.

Fido is still by the seoncd, and apparantly going to UNLIMITED for $45 in October!!!

I love Fido cause they are the only ones being fair, and sticking up for us. If it were upto telus, they would charge us $100 for 20 minutes :p .

For OUT of town and highway, telus and bell are the best, though even they suck.

Yes, Telus will get you the best coverage. Unless your going to be sticking to the trans canada or other main roads, don't expect any coverage from Rogers.

I used to work for a RadioShack in a small town and I don't know how many times people went to the city and bought a Rogers phone because it was "cheaper" than Sasktel Mobility. When they get it home, there's no signal and they come and yell at us. Rogers is full of crap they'll tell you anything to get you to sign up.

I would go with Telus if you want coverage. I beleive they use the 1x network, which BC Tel, Bell Mobility, Sasktel, MTS, etc.. all use.

Rogers/Fido uses the GPRS network.

oh for sure go with telus in alberta no question there. Rogers just plain sucks. I don't know about what plans they have in alberta but I get 350 day minutes plus unlimited evening and weekends from 6pm - 6am + free call waiting call display and message manager for 40 bux a month with telus. Kick ass deal if you ask me.

Thanks everyone. I went with Telus. They gave us a NB # but told us to just go into a Telus dealer when we get out there and they'll change it to an AB # for us. They threw in some extras for us which was good. We got the 2nd phone for no extra charge, he waived the activation fee on both phones, and he threw in a car charger for me and a case for my fiancee.
