I'm wanting to buy an out of state Mustang with a turbo and a trick flow kit. My question is when I take it to the DMV to get my registration started will the DMV employee pop my hood and check things out? And if so will it pass?
I haven't done this with an already modified car so any help on this would be great.

Yes they do. They have in my last two cars. The Mustang they didn't because the dealer handled the papers for registration. Maybe try and see if they will ship the car to a good dealer nearby and then try and buy it. That way a dealer here in CA handles the paper work for the first time. After that it's just smog and renewing online every year that you have to be concerned about

Ok I spoke to a DMV tech today and she said that it's okay to bring it in and not to worry about it passing their inspection. All they check for is the Vin #'s and some sticker under the hood that says the car is ok to operate in california. If this is true then I am home free!!! I'm gonna pick the car up this week :D

Drove the car back from TX. Never wanna do that again. gonna take the car to DMV first thing Monday. I will report back after everything is done

Got back from the DMV and everything is good. Hood was opened and the lady didnt even look at all the aftermarket stuff. Just checked VIN #'s, confirmed mileage, and that sticker under the hood.

I'm glad I got the car too. It's got issues but they're very minor.
I drove from TX by myself. And that, my friend, is a very long and lonely drive. I'd probably do it again but I'd bring someone along to help out with the driving.
:D

:D I hear ya! I drove from Vegas to Kelowna, BC, Canada twice. Once on my own and I learned my lesson and brought someone with me the second time even though we did it straight through(27 hours) it was still way better than the first time.

Glad you love the car! :nice:
