California Special with an SLC DSO?

Hi all,

I have what I'm pretty sure is an original GT/CS, but there's one thing I noticed a month or so back which has been nagging at me. The VIN starts as 8R01C so that checks out, but the door plate tag has a DSO of 73 for Salt Lake City.

Doesn't this mean that the car was sold out of SLC? Could you buy a GT/CS out of SLC? I thought that they were a California only promotional gig.

I have no other reason to suspect that this car is not an original, so hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me.

Thought someone would chime in with an authoritative answer, but since no one has. I will just add a note that the Illustrated Mustang Buyers Guide says the CS was available "mostly" in CA. Take it as you will.

You might want to get a Marti Report

Well, if it is an HCS it has the wrong decals on it :)

Will the basic (cheap) Marti report be sufficient to tell if it was built as a CS at the factory? It looks like it would be, I just want to make sure before I order it.

I'm not much help on this issue but if you didn't already have it here is the website to get a marti report.

Maybe that'll be of some use.

The 1968 GT/CS was delivered to the following DSO's:

53 (Kansas City)
61 (Dallas)
71 (L.A.)
72 (San Jose)
73 (Salt Lake)
74 (Seattle)
75 (Phoenix)
B6 (Canada)
B7 (Canada)

And the 1968 HCS (sister car to the GT/CS) all had a DSO of 51 (Denver)
