Caliper won't fit w/ new pads & rotor??

I installed new pads and rotor this afternoon on my '70 and I CANNOT get the caliper to slide over the rotor. I used a piston compressor and got it as compressed as humanly possible, but it still wont fit.

Any suggestions? Can I just sand the pads down a bit?

this happened to me on my last car, an 89 VW rabbit vert. Problem was, vented disc pads were slightly thinner than solid disc pads, and i had gotten solid disc pads. dont sand em cuz you'll be there FOREVER. just make sure you got the right pads for the right discs
