I've posted on her other times for help building my engine. It's taking longer than I anticipated and want to thank all of you for the help. My engine also has changed as I've gone along. I've got a 408 stroker kit that should have about a 9.6 to 1 CR. I have a pair of AFR 185's that should arrive any day. I thought I had my cam picked out until I read this. http://www.iskycams.com/techtips.php#2003 Since my 351 block engine is going in a 66 FB I won't have enough height for a good intake. I have a Performer but would like to go with an RPM if I have the room. Since my intake won't be the best for my application would I be better off going with an equal duration cam to give the gases more time to enter? It makes sense to me but I thought I'd ask some of you that know more about engines than I do.

as far as the intake goes, you can pick up another inch or so, using the 65 style motor mounts... though they arent as strong as what you have imho. i went with the wieand stealth intake, as the power band is a bit more broad than the edelbrock line, and yes, that meant swapping the stock hood for a shelby style fiberglass hood with scoop. with a windsor, and about anything besides a stock intake, you are looking at clearance issues.

1: the performer will do fine in your application, unless you are going all out racing.

2: if you decide on the rpm, go ahead and use it, just use a drop over style air cleaner.

3: you can use the 65 engine and chassis mounts, but you only gain about 1/2" at best, and you lose header clearance with the shock towers.

ron morris performance has a set that drop the car abot as much as the 65 maybe more i have heard...have not used them myself tho but they can also be adjusted front and back and side to side a little, little over 200 dollers tho,

Any specific part #'s you'd recommmend for taht air cleaner? I called summit and they had no idea...

With proper planning, even a Vic Jr can work under a stock 65/66 hood. I've detailed this swap a few time on this site.

A Stealth or an RPM will fit fine with a drop base air cleaner in a 65/66.

Holley has a decent 14" drop base air cleaner set. Advance Auto keeps it on the shelf. If there is still a clearance issue, the base can be altered for even more clearance. The 289 HiPo top works great on this air clearner. Holley part #120-102 Here it is at Summit: http://store.summitracing.com/partd...art=HLY-120-102&N=700+400178+115&autoview=sku

IMHO, a regular Performer (non-RPM) is a waste on a 408. It was designed for a 351 motor and will offer poor performance above 5000rpm. Besides, I guarantee you don't need the added torque. The RPM or Stealth is a much better choice and will work great, no matter what you intentions are for the car. If you are not going to feed the 408 with what it wants, you might as well as built a 289/302 based motor which fits the car much better.

Stay away from the RPM "Air Gap" because it is taller than both the RPM and the Stealth.

What headers and exhaust are you running?

I haven't picked out my headers or exhaust yet. I may go with a set of coated long tube hedmans because of price. The drop base air cleaner sounds like an excellent choice for my application.

Does anybody have any input about the Isky Cam write up about using cams with equal duration? http://www.iskycams.com/techtips.php#2003 It seems as though my setup may be a good candidate for this since the AFR heads are supposed to be very good on the exhaust side and my intake may be limited.
