CAM FOR MY APPLICATION

as far as the intake goes, you can pick up another inch or so, using the 65 style motor mounts... though they arent as strong as what you have imho. i went with the wieand stealth intake, as the power band is a bit more broad than the edelbrock line, and yes, that meant swapping the stock hood for a shelby style fiberglass hood with scoop. with a windsor, and about anything besides a stock intake, you are looking at clearance issues.

i was hearing people getting stealth's and rpm's in under stock hoods with low-profile air cleaners... anyone want to commment on that to say for certain?

that may be true with the 65 motor mounts, but i dont think it would work with the 66 type... im using the cobra oval, and it is only 1 1/2 inches tall.

1: the performer will do fine in your application, unless you are going all out racing.

2: if you decide on the rpm, go ahead and use it, just use a drop over style air cleaner.

3: you can use the 65 engine and chassis mounts, but you only gain about 1/2" at best, and you lose header clearance with the shock towers.

ron morris performance has a set that drop the car abot as much as the 65 maybe more i have heard...have not used them myself tho but they can also be adjusted front and back and side to side a little, little over 200 dollers tho,

Any specific part #'s you'd recommmend for taht air cleaner? I called summit and they had no idea...

With proper planning, even a Vic Jr can work under a stock 65/66 hood. I've detailed this swap a few time on this site.

A Stealth or an RPM will fit fine with a drop base air cleaner in a 65/66.

Holley has a decent 14" drop base air cleaner set. Advance Auto keeps it on the shelf. If there is still a clearance issue, the base can be altered for even more clearance. IMHO, a regular Performer (non-RPM) is a waste on a 408. It was designed for a 351 motor and will offer poor performance above 5000rpm. Besides, I guarantee you don't need the added torque. The RPM or Stealth is a much better choice and will work great, no matter what you intentions are for the car. If you are not going to feed the 408 with what it wants, you might as well as built a 289/302 based motor which fits the car much better.

Stay away from the RPM "Air Gap" because it is taller than both the RPM and the Stealth.

What headers and exhaust are you running?

Wow, I'm building a pretty similar engine for my Fairlane. Luckily I have a bit more room in the engine bay.

I'm going with some Morris Performance adjustable motor mounts incase I need to move the engine around a bit.
