im getting the thumper ported E7's (.500 lift) soon, so i was wondering what would the best performance cam for it ??
So far i have a BUNCH of bolt ons which include a 93 cobra intake

this is a daily driver but i do want something that sounds lopey but wont be too crazy with idle issues but at the same time it will pull hard up top to about 6,000

ideas & suggestions PLEASEEEE :nice:

OR should i just get the .600 lift option for extra $100?? really worth it or no?

Go with the extra lift springs, so you don't severely limit cam selection. Even ported, I seem to recall that E7 heads still restrict exhaust flow the most, so something with a split duration that favors the exhaust would probably be ideal.

And man, resize that sig. Max of 650 x 150 for images.

The .600 lift refers to how much the springs can handle. With a maximum of .500 lift, you pretty much rule out most aftermarket cams as being compatible with the springs without encountering coil bind.

... well from the cams i've seen so far not too many go over .500

the magnum comp cam seems really decent .500/.500 with advertised power btwn 2500-5800

good match you think??

Get a cam that will make power a little higher with at least 520 lift and get a lobe serperation of about 110 you will love the sound. Are you running long tube headers?

I'd not worry about sound at idle :nono:
and
Go for a bumpstick that will make you some power :Word:

Any cam is gonna lope at idle :D

I'd see what Thumper has to say about what works good with his heads ;)

I'd not do that without checking piston to valve clearance. IIRC, about the max you can get away with on a stock shortblock is around .512 in order to have enough clearance.

so i CANT get anything bigger than a .512 lift or ill have piston to valve clearance ???

that'd rule out even the smallest cam that comp offers for the thumper heads right??

appreciate all the input so far !!!!!

the x is a bit big for a driver by somes perspective, not by mine. the sound is awesome for a straight spec cam with wide seperation. works really well for me starts to make power at 25/2800 rpm range and i shift at 6,800 pulls hard all the way up. no numbers its my daily driver i just changed my springs on heads

GRADY
any personal suggestions for those heads?

*ur like a god on the 94-95's forums so id appreciate ur opinion

I really don't know a lot about cams other than just general info :)

I even enlisted a hired gun for cam choice with my little GT :rlaugh:

Here are a few thoughts that may or may not help

The OEM iron heads have poor exhaust efficiency
and
The newer after market heads do not
thus
I feel it is not always good to use new tech cams with old tech heads

In a nutshell ...
a cam can be used to bolster the poor e flow in those old iron heads ;)

That is the reason I felt you should get with Thumper and see what he
has got to say :nice:

I'm sure this has all been dealt with here if you want to try and find
it with a search

Again ... Please let me stress this point :D

I know all about wanting to sound ......
bad azz at a stop light
with cam lope and all that :)

A nasty lope doesn't always mean a car that will make good power :nono:
so
Even the smallest cam is gonna lope some
so
Don't fret over that a whole lot ;)

I actually do get a bit frustrated from all the attention it draws when me
and the little woman go out for a cruise around town :bang:

anyway .......

I do feel you can learn from other peeps experiences :Word:

I don't know how much power you are expecting from this combo

Here are a few iron headed based combos for you to consider :)

well i have a 93 cobra intake to go with those heads
imma call thumper and see what they say =)

anyways...to tell you the truth i was stunned to trap 104
i was debating whether id brake a 100 but.... hey the 4.10s really did their work !
but what i was really disappointed by was the 14.01
dunt mean to sound cocky but i was almost positive i was in the 13's but i guess i was wrong - the issue was the tires tho- i ran on really really bold summitomos (those tires feel like plastic btw - deff dont suggest them but i was using them cause i got them with the rims)

anyways ill keep you guys updated once the H/C project nears (only a few weeks away)

***BTW - i got an offer for $400 - ported E7's 196/152 / bigger valves / .600 comp cam springs and this is what throws me off - 1.5 ratio rockers ??? wtf is that all about?? the guy tells me its to avoid piston-valve clearance issues
they look really clean

OR

bare but cleaned up GT40's for $200 (what EXACTLY would i need to get to complete them & how much would it run me?? springs, rockers......., ???

Please help me decide
