Im getting ready to do my cam in my new 408W. I was going to use my 302 cam for now until money was better. I have put close to $8,000 in this motor already and my wife is getting upset because she wants new carpet through out the house. My cam is in a 88 302 motor. Its a custom ground S/C cam. My 408 is a non roller block. What do I need to have to put this roller cam into my non roller block? Will I need new pushrods because of the taller 408W deck height? I want to retain my pushrods, lifters, roller rockers, and cam if I can. Thanks.

With all the money you've put into it, it seems silly to scrimp now on the most important piece. The displacement makes a BIG difference -- cams designed for 302 cubes behave entirely differently in 408 cubes. Hook up with Buddy, Ed or Jay for a custom -- it's really the only reasonable thing to do.

Pushrod length is gonna be different in any event. And, if you want to use the HO roller lifters in a 351 non-roller block, they're probably too tall to use with a standard base circle roller HO cam. The lifters will interfere with the dogbones at lobe peak. One solution is to go to linked roller lifters - but that's expensive. Another is to go with a custom, reduced base circle cam -- and different length pushrods which you have to have anyway.
So-in my mind, it all points towards a custom as your best and least expensive all-around alternative. Ask your wife for forgiveness.
