Well it comes down to the last piece/heart of the engine, so far my top end consists of a cobra intake ,65mmtb, and a pair of ford racing x303 heads and am wondering what would be a good cam for this mild combo. I was checking out the Anderson Ford MotorsportAFM's N-41 hydraulic-roller camshaft in this write up and it sounds good, any others before i decide to hop on this , 1 thing im worried about would be pistion to valve clearance issues.

I belive these are the specs on that cam . AFM N-41 222/232 .512/.512 w/1.6 rocker 110 106.

I have the 1.7 roller rcokers though.

Any suggestion for a cam.

Just got through installing one in my 89 notch. I have tw heads with no clearence problems. Even though you have inline valved cylinder heads you should have ZERO p2v problems. Always check though! BTW....you will love the cam, revs like crazy!

Go with the Crane 2031. It's made to be used with the 1.7 rockers and is good for na & sc engines. I used it for years and I'm sorry I took it out. I replaced it with a AFM and it made no difference in hp. I have every mod you could imagine to a 5.0 on my engine...trust me.

Why did you take it out and replace it with the afm, so both these cams were similar, also what cam gave the best thump outta the exaust. I want to do it once and not have to worry about it down the road , i might be going with a sc next year or possibly a turbo.

Thanks much.

p/n N-41 302 c.i.d. This cam is to be used with 1.6 R.R. Best cam for GT-40. Great with TFS or Edelbrock heads. Minimum 24lb injectors and 75mm mass air. Recommend 3.73 to 4.30 gears. Good drivability down to 2100 rpm, lumpy idle, rpm range 2600-6200, works best with 89-93 EEC, needs 2800-3000 converter.

p/n N-21 Same as N-41 except utilizing 1.7 R.R. 302 c.i.d. This cam is to be used with 1.7 R.R. With bolt-down R.R., needs 0.040" longer push rods.

The AFM cam for 1.7 rockers is the B-21. I installed that cam thinking it would make a difference but I guess I already had reached maximum cylinder flow with the 2031 and a larger cam did nothing. The AFM has a better exhaust note to it. I'm running Holley System Max with Edelbrock heads and 13lbs. of boost.

Just a reminder. If you're NA now and SC later on the 2031 will work for both. I've been doing this for 20 years and have had plenty of experience and changed the cam on the recommendation of a well known dyno shop. Read up on the 2031. It's a great street cam and cheaper than the AFM. Any way you go good Luck!

The n-41 works well with forced induction as well. If anyone has plans on running mostly NA and maybe adding a power adder later....go with a good running NA cam:nice:
