After much research, I've narrowed my cam selection down to the Comp Cam Stage II SPR setup...as many of you know this set requires a valve spring replacement and a phaser mod...my question is two parts...a)anybody had any experience with these things? b) is there some reason I should choose the FRPP Hot Rods over this setup?

Keep in mind I'm going mainly for the power increase/dollar spent...am I making a wise decision?

HP/dollar I think cams that don't require springs are going to be better, unless you're doing the install yourself. The added time required to do the spring swap is going to increase labor costs a lot, not to mention the added cost of the springs.

Well, are you going to go forced induction eventually? .. or is the car going to be strictly N/A? I think if you're going to go forced induction than I'd just save my money for other mods. If you're going N/A than it's a good mod. I'd just do the NSR Hot-Rod cams and do it myself. Ford sells a timing chain wedge so you don't have to mess with timing so it makes the install a lot easier. On a side note, if you decide to keep the car strictly N/A, I'd recommend upgrading to a different intake and exhaust. The C&L or JLT intakes and a straight through muffler like Magnaflows typically make the most power.

Hey guys I am new to the forums. I am either going with the NSR Comp Stage II cams or the FRPP Hot rod NSR cams. I am not experienced enough yet to do the install myself and I really don't want to pay a shop ridiculous amounts of money to change the springs and phaser. Just not worth it to me but like Nasty said if you want to go N/A it is going to be extremely expensive anyway so why not go for the SPR Comp stage II setup. All depends on what you want to do.

alright so what i'm getting is that it's probably not worth it to get the cams with spring and phaser mods...so i guess Stage II NSR cams is on the books (seeing as how i use gears higher than 3.90s)...does anyone have any idea how much it costs in labor in California to get cams (NSR) installed...are we talking several days of labor or in/out in a day..

....also, if I wanted to keep the N20 option open should I make another choice here...i plan on keeping my engine N/A (not sure if you consider N20 forced induction though)...any help is appreciated:SNSign:

I've heard of people being able to do NSR cams in around 3 hours but no shop is going to bill for only that much. I'd say you're looking at 6-8 hours for them.

If you are getting cams aggressive enough to need springs, best to get a good set of heads (Livernois) to go with your cam. Cams will raise your peat to about 7K, and that isnt safe to do with stock valvetrain, guides, etc...

NSR's may be more of what you are looking for...
