Cams that will pass the smog...

Anyone know which cams will pass the tailpipe sniffer test? I know the E-Cam has a CARB number and obviously the stock cam passes too. What else will pass??? I'm leaning towards a Trick Flow Street HCI kit and wondering if the cam in there will make me fail the sniffer (TFS 51402000 - Duration @ .050 Int./Exh. 221/225; Lift Int./Exh. .499/.510)???

Anyone else with a cam that passed the sniffer test please let me know what brand/model/custom grind (Ed Curtis @ FlowTech???) specs...and THANK YOU in advance! I'm definitely open to change since i'm still in the planning process :-)

BTW, I have to pass the sniffer in Illinois, and no, i don't have anyone living in a rural area that can register my car out in the boonies to get me out of testing...

Mine did
and
not just barely :nono:

It put out real clean numbers :D

According to the inspector guy

We are second in line to Cal in strict emissions testing

I got no carb number however!

ya their not gonna know it a car has a cam anyways unless its got some crazy lope. otherwise mite be able to get away with iti bet.

With the wide range of combos and diff. in them I think the only real way to tell is get it tested and see how far off or on you are.

I thought there was a math eq that used the specs of the cam and if it was +1 or so it would pass and if it was -x it would fail?

Either way...I no longer care:D , my state just kicked out the dyno testing smog company and passed a law that anything 95 and older is exempt. It starts sep. 07 and I decided to put off getting my plates alittle. I might get them done next month (Sept.) for one year or maybe 2 (we have an option or 1 or 2) but I will prob. only drive it (if I get off my butt and get it done) until late Oct. early Nov. anyway.

Thanks guys! I feel quite a bit better now knowing that all those cams have successfully passed the sniffer. Last time I went they gave me the options of having two small "wands" up the tailpipes instead of putting the traditional hoses on the tailpipes that collect exhaust. on a side note, this test was also run at idle instead of on the dyno with simulated driving conditions...seemed to come out way cleaner than usual. anyone else have this type of test? seems like you can get away with a lot more emissions-wise on this type of test compared to the traditional dyno/road conditions test they normally run in IL.

In my neck of the woods, they put your car on what looks like dyno rollers.

They test it at a steady speed of 45 mph and at a lower speed which I don't remember any details about.

They test it at idle some how as well

They even put your fuel tank under pressure to see if the gas cap will contain the fumes.

You of course gotta pass a visual so you can't be missing anything like cats, air pump and the like.

We are the same in MA, except they dont even open the hood.
I was quite amazed that my car passed so well, it was about 1/2 way to the max.......and mind you this isnt a stock car.

The single most important thing is the stock 4-cats that setup works GREAT.....also i set up my air pump so that it pumps all the time......AND i passed with NO egr!

Sounds like the exact same company/setup here that we have officaly given the boot too:banana:  :spot: . The friggan EPA even made a statement/report on how totaly wastefull and useless the thing was.

I had a buddy who took his 84 blazer with a 383 no cats and no smog give the guy an extra 40$ and say "damn I really need this thing to pass"...well it sure did. Gotta love a guy making 8$hr getting the chance to make some extra.

The emissions testing may have gotten relaxed for you
but
It ain't gonna happen in the DFW area.

This place has gotten to be like LA and is gettin worse as each day goes by.

There are just too many peeps here for emissions to get relaxed.

btw ... the last time I got my 95 tested, I forgot to toggle back the egr function to normal and still passed with flyin colors :rlaugh:
