Lots of money you are wanting to spend on sound. It would be cheaper to load an MP3 of a cammed engine and play it loud as you drive down the road. I'm assuming this is on a 94 judging by your screen name?

MHS has some Stage 2 and 2.5 NPI specific cams that do not require much in the way of supporting mods. Anything higher than that will require a lot of mods. The stage 2's you could literally just bolt on and go. The 2.5's you should probably upgrade to the PI intake manifold, or an aftermarket intake manifold.

If you know what you are doing with the install, then, having MHS degree the cams before sending them to you would be easy, and then you can just drop them in with the TFS adjustable crank gear set. You would then have to get a tune to use them, but really, not much more.

That is a lot of money, time, and effort just for sound.

I had a 96 GT I installed Comp 262's. Very little lope but bumped the HP. I never did get an idle vid of it. Wish I would have. I had a friend who did 270's in his 98 GT and it was a nice lope. Took a bit to get it tuned so it would idle but he didn't degree them or change the valve springs. I paid $300 for the cams and did the work myself. If you have it done by a shop I see a minimum of $1500 labor. That's a lot of cash for sound.

To add you have to degree the cams as you install them. It isn't something that is done to the cams themselves but a process to avoid piston to valve contact. I didn't do that because I went with a mild cam. My friend who did 270's reported a light tap at start-up and went away. Can't tell you what he experienced for sure but the car ran fine for a few years until he wrecked it. That said, my belief is the earlier 4.6's were built with those cam tolerances in mind. As the engine developed in the later years I think the build got a little "sloppy" as far as cams installs at the factory which is why more of the 99 and up cars experienced PTV while the older cars didn't. Granted this is ONLY my opinion.

If you do the work, you can probably get it done for ~$2k usd. Go HERE. Just looking quickly, but 2.5 cams, degreeing service, and the TFS adjustable crank gears would get you to about $900 shipped. HERE is a PI intake swap kit. Add a BBK 78mm throttle body from HERE. That should get you up to a little over $1500 usd shipped. From there, you just need tuning. That could be anywhere from 400-800 depending on who you get to tune it. It should be a dyno tune from a shop in your local area. Then you are good to go. It won't sound like a big cammed 350, but it will have a little lope to it.

Also, while you have the front of the engine off, replace the timing chain guides!

Good luck. A lot of work for the sound of it. If you want more, that is always an option too, but then you are probably going to be pulling heads.
