camshaft pin and eccentric problem!

Hi guys, I'm converting my 93 to carb and have run into a problem....
I bought the 1 piece Ford racing eccentric and I already have a Edelbrock 3722 cam in the block with Edelbrock timing set. The pin that sticks out of the cam is not long enough to reach the hole on the eccentric. I'm concerned that if I bolt on the eccentric with just the cam/timing set bolt, it might loosen up and not drive the holley mech pump! Would it be sfe to install like this? I cannot get that pin out at all. I've tried and it stuck good.

I had the same problem and ended up buying a kit from Summit. It contains both a short and log pin, plus a 2 pcs. concentric.
I'd have to check for the part number, if needed.

how did you pull the pin out of the cam? The one I have feels like it's fused to the cam. Here's an idea I had....
The cam has the pin so far in that it leaves about 1/4" of space inside the timing gear once it's set and installed.... Can I weld a 1/4" pin to the eccentric so that it sits in that space available in the cam gear and drive the pump that way? I really dont want to have to pull the motor apart and remove the valvetrain to get that pin changed out to a longer one at a machine shop. My only other option is scrapping the mech pump I just bought, and going with a tank sump, electric pump, etc, etc. Which I was hoping to avoid to ditch the pump noise and additional parts I would need.

I wasn't thinking the cam was installed. Hmmmm? I suppose you could do the welding thing. A 1/4" should provide enough pin depth for strength. Perhaps, using a suitable "roll pin" then "spot" the non-engine side with a weld.
My other thought, now that I know the cam is installed, would be to put a little liquid nitrogen on the pin to shrink it to extract.
Google for the nitrogen, it is available to shink/kill skin moles/warts.

I don't think in this case that welding is such a hot idea. If you can't extract the pin or get a shop to do it, you could always go with a new cam profile or just use an electric fuel pump.
 
Electric fuel pump would be the wa I'd have to go. The bad thing is that I would need to sump the tank, and deal with the noise of the pump, which I didn't like on my old 86 f150.....
Running wiring is not a problem at least, I've already rewired the body harness and removed the efi stuff. Took me four days, an old school chilton manual with all electrical diagrams, a magnifying glass, soldering gun, and a patient wife. :) I can add a relayed harness to the ignition switch no problem.

Honestly, I liked the look of the Holley mechanical setup, so I'm gonna talk to my machine shop guy tomorrow to see what he recommends on that eccentric weld.
