can a clogged mufler......

could a very clogged mufler cause the seals on my engine to blow.
I wont have the money to get it redone for probably another month.
the cat and mufler both are very old,
since the car was sitting in a field for 2yrs + some odd months
would this be a decent part of why my engine has trouble running at higher rpm's since sometimes it wont run for crud at 3k rpms and sometimes 4k.

No.

Mufflers very rarely clog. Cats do clog on occasion, but if your cat is clogged you'd know it (engine would make almost no power and the exhaust manifold would be glowing red after just a few minutes of the engine running).

What "seals" are you talking about that blew?

And have you given the engine a basic tune up?

if your driving your car with a clogged cat (very clogged), you are liable to blow a head gasket.

well that doesnt sound like fun

a while back i blew a hole in the oil pan the size of a softball on a cavalier i had
last night my mustang died while in neutral on a hill
starter wouldnt get it going so i popped the clutch in 4th gear
it sounded like/worse than when my cavalier blew

however the car is running fine, and now the starter kicks it over like when i bought it

you blew a hole in your cavaliers oil pan? Well...the 2.3 shouldnt hold any suprises for you

how the hell did you blow a hole (that big) in a oil pan? i've ran over curbs and boulders in my 2.3 and they just left a few scratches.

I am still curious what seals he was referring to!

If the car sat for a long time, the seals may need replacing because they dry up sometimes and then when they start getting used they (crank seals) crack and allow oil to get by.
