Can I beat a Firebird (LS1)?

They can be beat in town...like said before...with 4.10s and some sticky tires...but this is stoplight racing...

Past about 60 mph it is all down hill from there...

Have a friend with a 2001 Firehawk that dynoed stock except a lid (air intake) with 332.3rwhp 348.9tq SAE. LS1's are really underrated.

My mods are in sig and everytime we go to the track/in town I have him up to 60 or so...then he just starts walking...

With my mods, it sounds like my best chance is 0-60 mph. With the gearing of the Firebird (LS1), a highway roll-on from 50-100 mph would be futile. It's time to go hunting. :)

Even stock gts should be able to take an LS1 up to 50, maybe 60mph. After that it gets ugly. With your mods your most likely making 260-270rwhp while stock LS1s make 300-325rwhp. Due to weight and gearing it should be pretty close in the 1/4 with you having the lower speed advantage. You should be able to run at least mid 13s if you can drive and a "well" driven LS1 will hit 13.1-3. I say it would be a drivers race.

This boggles me.

Too many people either don't know or keep forgetting that the LS1 f-bodies are underrated. The lowest I think I've heard of an LS1 dyno'n at stock was around 290rwhp. Even with as much as I'm pushing at the moment, which isn't much at all, I know for a fact that a well driven LS1 *should* handle me after 3rd gear. Different gear ratios, different power curves, 5-speed vs 6-speed, etc.

Besides, there's too many variables in a race. The whole, could I, would I stuff doesn't matter. Just try it and find out. Hope that you drive well and he doesn't.

I went looking for an LS1 this morning. No luck. I'll keep looking and post the results in talk.

You have similar mods to mine, and I can pretty consistently beat near stock ls1's (including my buddy's stock WS6) in the 8th, so don't believe all the hype. We dont have a 1/4 mile track around here but I'd guess that after the 8th it would be a different story. Gears go along way in a short race.

Couldn't say it better myself, just go out and do it. Its all in the driver light to light, the highway well thats a different story. Good Luck! Any more questions with F-bodies just line them up and see. SLP is having it out in October so we will definently find out.
