Like it says, I wanna paint the Mustang GT silver on my bumper. Can I do this by cleaning it up real good, masking it, then spray like 4 coats of Krylon Fusion? I know its only 13 plus shipping for the stickers, but thats like 18 bucks and A - I wanna do it this weekend, and B - Thats 18 bucks in my pocket. Just wondering if anyone's done this and if/how it worked. I'm assuming it did, just wanna double check.

thanks
Adam

so, paint doesnt cost you anything? is someone a thief. jk. that seems a little risky to me. practice a lot before you do it. the one thing that will bother you the most is it turning out like garbage. good luck man

I wouldnt even risk it. I got mine for $7 with free shipping on ebay. Seems a lot easier and unless you already have the paint you arent saving much.

Go for it man... Get some 3" masking take, put it over the lettering, then GENTLY cut out each letter with a razor blade, then mask off the back side of your car and spray away. Painted mine with Krylon Fusion along with the tail lights

nice man, and yes, I do already have the paint as my little brother needed it for a school competition to make a homecoming float (along with red, gold, and black, GO HAWKS!). I can't see it being too hard, and 1105's detailing came out solid. Paint is go for Saturday afternoon.

another question, how many coats did you use? I think 2 or 3 should be fine.

That looks great, thanks for the inspiration to do that, I've been wanting to paint my tail lights like that for years, but just couldn't make myself do it.

Ok..I got a couple of helpful pics.
Here is a pic of my car in the shop a couple of yrs ago. It is the best one I have of when I painted my own lettering. It is gold, b/c at the time, I had a lot of the metal on the car gold plated.

This is a good illustration of how to tape it. You take several large strips of blue painters tape, and place long strips on the top and bottom, aligning them with the top and bottom edges...this will ensure the letters are all the same height. Then I placed long strips BETWEEN the letters. Check the pic below to see..each box is one strip of tape. After all the long pieces were done, I covered all the visible paint outside the perimeter of the tape with newspaper and taped that down....THEN, I finished by using smaller pieces of tape insided the letters, and trimming the edges. The "A", "S", and "G's" are tricky.

GOOD LUCK.

Ever think about just buying some bumper inserts? I bought mine from Bobwhitedecals.com and they still look great after the 2 years that I'ver had them. Theyre reflective silver I think they were around $25 shipped and you dont have to worry about getting spraypaint on your bumper.

Shame you can't take the rear bumper off and lay it with the letters face up. I painted the running horse impression on a set of pony wheels by using a 100 CC syring and very gentle filling it in with the paint, saved a ton of time by not taping and it looked just as good if not better that spraypaint and no worries about getting overspray on the bumper

He said above that he didnt really have the cash right now, and he wanted a project for the weekend.

Adam: DONT WORRY about getting spray on the bumper. All you gotta do is lay newspaper around it. When my letters were painted, I redid it every year to brighten it up. I never once got spray on it...You have to see if there is any wind, then face the car so that any excess will blow back away from the car.

If you do this, take a pic before, after, and while the bumper is taped off.

Good luck

Dont even think about doing that. Get the vinyl letters. I got them on E-bay and had like $15.00 in them. Been on for 3 years and looks great!
