any potential problems using the x2's? Would I need alignment right after?

if you are planning on having them lower the car, yes. lowering the car changes the geometry of the suspension and needs to be realigned.

What about the install? Isn't it a PITA to install on your own? I usually do all my own work, but I'd probably have to remove the lowers and take them to a shop with a press right?

And they'll only lower the car if you take out the spacers that come with.

You can borrow a ball joint press and do it yourself for nothing. It is pretty easy to do...take one part out and put a new on in. Really that easy.
