Putting a new compressor so I wanted to see if I could shine up some other things in the engine bay so it matches. Is it safe to use a wire brush on the hard metal ac lines that go into the compressor. Should I use a standard steel wire brush or a brass one? What about the tensioner and the alternator? Thanks in advance.

I would use a Scotch Brite pad instead. They make them in various coarseness to accommodate whatever it is that you are cleaning.

So just hand sanding it with this will shine it up?

Consider painting with an aluminum finish paint. Alumacoat.

I used a Dremel with the small wire brush attachment and then some polish. Compressor, tensioner and alternator came out shiny and almost new looking. Just go slow and stay away from the compressor seal and tape off the alternator openings to ensure no issues if you choose to try it. Scotch-bright and painting is a nice option also.

Each pack was about 5 bucks at Walmart.
Comes with 4 units per pack.
They wear out kinda quick so I bought 2 or maybe 3 packs and used them all doing all the separate parts.
