My car has about 130,000 Miles on it, just wondering if the roller lifters (NOT ROCKERS), could be worn out? Anyway to check?

Thanks

When you take them out check for cracks and excessive wear...

I don't think so...Unless the cam is bad but what are the odds of that...From what I know they can last a million miles.

yes they can wear out they are a friction based part. friction is the death of all motors.

sure they can wear out, Chances are if you change you oil when you supposed to, your lifters should be in great condition. Take em out and look at them just to be sure tho. My motor has 120k and when i bolt my new heads on i'll just be reusing my old lifters..

Look for any blemish on the roller itself. Mine (135,000+) had minor grooves in a few rollers. Shocked me, so I pulled the cam, and glory be, there were matching grooves/lines on the cam lobes. Gonna change my oil a little more frequently......

Hydraulic Roller Lifters are pretty cheap considering how many you get for about $105 (16) , If you are putting in a new cam DEF. replace them, if you are concerned about it and have motor apart put them in... www.mustangsunlimited.com has good deal on the Ford Motorsport ones, thats where I got mine, Good luck!

I am living proof they wear out. My oil pump went out while racing and when I got it home and pulled the intake off I found a roller that looked more like a triangle. There went that motor. Like they said pull em out and inspect for serios wear and make sure that the rollers are not loose. You can check this by spinning them and they should not be loose on the bearings they ride on. If you already have the intake off I would replace them. I had just put my Cobra intake on and forgot to inspect them. Make sure not to drop any of the cork gasket into the distributor shaft when removing/replacing intake. That was what blocked my oil pump and starved my top end of oil. This can be a damn painful way of getting that new engine you always wanted.
