Wow, sorry I missed this post, I can't believe no one else answered it yet. Kevin Marti, owner of Marti Auto Works purchased all the invoices and ordering info from the Ford databases save for the 65-66 models that were all destroyed in 67'. Basically with your VIN number and data plate info he can tell you who ordered your car originally, when and how it was delivered, etc.... all the type of info you can not decode from the tags. I think the website is just www.martiauto.com but if that doesn't work then do a search and you'll find it.
Wayne, I wouldn't waste the money on the Marti report, it's not supposed to be original to your car, if it came with it factory it was an abbhoration and doesn't make it rare (you've modified it anyways) and your just being too anal about it. 
Put it up on Ebay as being what it is and if it sells it sells and if it doesn't, pitch it. You don't need it, or you can weld it in your son's Firebird and make someone in the future ask, "WTF?!?"

After posting my question I did a search and found the Marti Auto Works web site. For $45, it looks intriguing. Even though the part that started all this probably isn't really a part of my car, it would be interesting to know a few things.
For example, I assume it will tell me if the car had tilt steering from the factory. It surprises me that the car has A/C and power windows, but not tilt steering.
