Can someone explain to me how my car is still alive after 2-->1 shift???

The fear in a situation like this isn't "weakening the gears VERY badly". That doesn't make sense. The gears don't have a defined lifespan. If they are not abused day in an day out, are well lubricated, and don't corrode.... they will last practically forever. Can you break them? Sure. But then they just break. They don't work for three weeks and THEN break.

The concern here is a mechanical over-rev of the engine. At extremely high engine RPM, the timing chains will stretch against the force of the chain tensioner. Because the cam will obviously change valve timing under these circumstances, you wind up with piston-to-valve interface. The valves lose. You now have a trashed valvetrain and trash itself in the cylinder bores.

If the engine runs strong and sounds good he is probably all right. Most serious engine problems announce themselves immediately, kind of like an STD.

Not me, but i'm rebuilding a T-5 that the previous owner did the same thing on.

While going WOT in 3rd gear, he meant to powershift to 4th gear. Well somehow he powershifted it into 2nd Gear!!

The gear was fine but it grinded every shift after. I needed to replace the 2nd gear, 2nd gear blocking ring and the 1-2 synchro slider as the dog teeth were damaged where they interlocked. The gears themselves were fine, it just messed up all the synchronizing components from trying to mesh at that high of a speed

Rev-limiters are great (unless you run dry nitrous and touch them), but remember that a rev-limiter will not save you from a downshift at high speed. Mechanical over-revving can occur no matter what the computer desires to do.

The car drove good. No ticking. Pulls strong.

I remember now why it went to 1st. My stupid shifter sticks to the left and does not return to the center. When i missed 3rd, I assumed I was in the middle and pushed forward.

Any idea how to fix the sticking??

i did the same thing getting on the highway in my celica back in the day when i just got my license, Luckily i realized what i had done and put the clutch back in before I hit like 5k rpm.

I bet your engine saw some crazy rpms, if u got it all the way into gear, its possible like some said that the rear tires broke loose.

I saw a friend in a 5.0 racing some kid, hit first instead of third and the rear tires just locked up. If u had slicks on it could of been alot worse.

If you didn't already notice any damage, like a piston shot through the hood of your car, I think your car will be fine. I am sure you put a little wear on the clutch but nothing to big.
