lol yeah the only way i like those is slammed like that burgundy one next to that FINE woman. and unless the car was mint and that chick came with it i still wouldnt shop for one. they are a aquired taste(well so are foxes to some) but im with ryan they are sloooooooowwwwwwwwww. but they have there pluses. i cannot think of an easier car to do a motor swap on......and they got potential...idk about this mike.....have fun none the less i wouldnt put heads on it, its not going to respond to them like a 5.0/v8 its alot of work to make them speed. its not like 1000 in mods is gonna hit 12's like a fox.....maybe 14's or something i bet that thing stock runs an 18 at best.....keep the 4 banger fox man and drive it. how much you selling it for?

My friend who has a fox bought a beetle with a straight body, and all the pieces for CHEAP. He has a sick fox, and the beetle lasted about 6 months. Had an appeal but never made it more than that. I couldn't imagine treating it like my fox, daily driving and building it up. Seems more like a project/fun car only.

But cool for you!

I won't dog another man's choice of old-school cars, but ... sorry, I just don't get the Bug thing. People that have them these days only tend to have 'em because they're wayyyyyyyyy into them - it's like some kind of a strange subculture that I don't get, like old dudes that collect and restore Chevy Corvairs. But hey, as long as you have fun with it and it doesn't break the bank, then I guess it's all good.

How old are you? 17? Stop buying and selling junk cars and save some money for college.

I have prepaid college

and as a general response to everyone else, I like the bug. Sure its slow as hell, but with some serious work ( which is cheap ) It could go pretty damn fast. and I know heads arent gonna make a huge difference like it does on foxes but i mentioned it as an example of price. considered good aluminums for a fox is $1600. But yeah, The beetle will be my weekend/fun car. Maybe drive it during the week once in a while.

man beetles are uber high maintenance. I drove a 72 for years and they are far from cheap. not to burst your bubble or anything.

your wrong again. heads for a fox can be picked up for far cheaper for a set of nice alum heads.

and yet again. your wrong again. its not going to be cheap to make it fast. remember. your starting with a car that my kia sportage would woop on.

1,000 into a fox...run 13's
1.000 into a bug..run a 18 A like what. 72mph haha

Ah man...A Super Beatle isnt so "Super"...lol...a old skool bug is better choice if your in to air cooled VW's....maybe a Bus? or Squareback or Notch VW would be a better choice...Super Beattle has diff suspension...curved windshiled and just different...its like saying you have a mustang then someone sees it and its a Mustang II lol

If your in to "small car performance" why not get a Swapped/Boosted EF,EG,EK Hatch or 88-91CRX with a engine swap? Those are somewhat cheap, usually dont have rust issues yet and have more potential then a old school vw? I understand wanting to be different but a super beattle isnt the right choice...old skool air cooled dubs on polished empis look great but bugs are a lot of maitnence..always adjusting valves but there simple cars so thats a good thing

I honestly dont mind. I love that bug. I drove it 250 miles with one tank (10 gallons). There are some pros and cons. oh and i got a ragtop for it for free

Pros

-gas mileage
-looks
-slammed
-Has Exhaust
-good handling
-4 speed manual
-very very light
-easy to work on engine
-cheap parts
-everyone in the VW scene is like a close family (just like the fox scene)
-bucket seats

Cons
-idles rough and dies often in red lights (needs carb rebuild)
-needs weather stripping in back pop out windows.
- electrical things are a mess
-little odds and ends need to be taken care of.
-slow (though its still fun)
-wheel rubs when car turns right.
- cant take the slightest bump or pothole.

Ill have pics tomorrow and video

- cant take a turn to save its life.
- its german
- i wont drift in the rain like my 4 banger mustang would
- part may be cheap. but overnight shipping cost an arm and a leg from germany!
- runs a 18+ 1/4 time.
- did i mention it was slow?
- its ugly as sin
- the chicks think im ghey.
- my bro's disown me.
- i cant grow my stash like hitlers.
- every panel rattles.
- i cant jam to micheal perry now becasue it has no radio.

You're going to dump a TON of money into that POS and it wont even be able to beat a stock fox.

IIRC Beetles come stock with 38hp.

The later ones had 50 hp.

A couple of weeks ago I saw an old guy in what looked like a restored bone stock Beetle on the HIGHWAY. Semi's, cars, and trucks were whizzing around the poor guy trying not to rear end him; I bet he had the 38 hp version.

You cant slam a super beetle like a pre 71 beetle.

But anyways, here is a thread you may enjoy, just keep in mind most of these are not super beetles.
