I have an annoying shhhhhh type of sound when accelerating, its really noticable when going over a bridge or somewhere where the sound reflects off the sides...i was wondering if maybe i am actually hearing the air blowing into my exhaust? would it hurt anything to take off the belt and drive around the block, or would it overheat that fast?

if you removed it completely and bypassed it with a short belt then u shouldnt hear anything.

i disconnected the lines from my smog pump (before i deleted it) and i drove around a week before my kit came in. i was doing headers and those lines were just an annoyance. so i just put a 90 degree line to point the smog pump airflow downwards. it made this pssssss noise every now and then till i deleted it completely.

Unless I am mistaken, the pump shuts off airflow to the cats at WOT and dumps it overboard, bypassing all the rest of the plumbing. You could be hearing the result of that bypass, or the first vacuum controlled valve after the smog pump is bad.
