Main reason I ask is how all over the place you are with pricing. In one post you say you don’t have a huge budget for paint and in the next you are talking about a 15k coyote swap. If you have 15-20k to blow, you can have any fox you want. If you have 5k to blow, you can get a really nice fox.

@billison

You are correct. I did figure an initial budget to get the car back to dealer stock consisting of 5-6K for car + 5K for paint + 5K for motor rebuild to factory stock + 5K interior + 5k plus for suspension suspension and breaks to stock. Not all at once, but paint and motor were first.

So basically $15K now to spend. The expensive cars i see now - I would still have to invest 10K for paint and rebuild the motor to stock. So now i'm at 25 to 30K now to spend.

I'm sure i'm off on my numbers a bit, but i'm new to this!

So........how much are you going to spend again? For 15k you could buy a nice 93 cobra or a really nice low mile stockish or built LX or GT, that may not need much to get it where you want it.

@BlakeusMaximus

I cant find anything because i'm stuck on vibrant red. And it has to be LX or Cobra. If i find vibrant red, what are the odds it doesn't need paint. Ford was not the best with paint.

Hard to say, depends. You might have to open yourself up to more color choices. My white GT has its original paint and still looks pretty good and I know my car wasn't always garaged. I did however have to polish and wax it when I bought it to shine it up. Its not perfect but it is presentable. If you do have 15k to spend, you could find a nice car that doesn't need much. Just look around. I guarantee you'll have to travel out of your area to find one though.

Do you guys just partially paint your cars? say chips in the hood or front bumper to be color matched painted?

If i find a very clean vibrant red car, its still 25+ years old. In lieu of total repaint, would i just repaint areas that need restoration, say hood, bumper or any other area that has chips and such to bring the paint to "like new".

Like I said about 5 times already, you need to find a car first before you worry about painting the damn thing. If you have 15k to spend on a car you may not have to worry about paint at all!!

If you have that much to spend. Start looking! Post on all the major forums, hit Craigslist, there are several huge Facebook groups. There are several companies that specialize in foxes. Something will take your money and give you a nice red fox

yeah. I saw that one. It's a dealership and I remember reading a thread here of people saying never to purchase from a dealer.

My mistake. The overpriced LX is from a dealer. I need to look into the cobra.

The dealer thing is your call. That car is only worth 1/3 that price but if that’s what you want..
