Im having to put a new cluster in my car due to an electrical (can you smell smoke) problem. Im sure there are safeguards to prevent un scroupulous people from resetting the miles -- but I would really like to set mine to the 74,000 it has rather than the 154,000 on the replacement unit. Any ideas?

You can remove the center gear and roll it back. There is another thread just recently posted on how to replace that center gear with good pics showing you how to do it. Search for "speedo gear" and it will probably come up.

If I'm not mistaken, when you tamper with the odometer the numbers will not line up as they did initially. I've been told it's designed that way so you can tell if an odometer has been messed around with.

You can remove the entire odometer unit and swap it with your current one. Two torx-head bolts and it's out. I did that with my Cobra conversion, to have the mileage match the chassis (179,562) rather than the original Cobra (51,930).
