I not here to start a debate with our american neighbours about gas quality, but ive heard from every car nut ive talked to that we (canada) have better quality gas than down south. is that true?

if so, would 89 be sufficient for a diablo tune or would it be better to go 92.

i ask as according to the book, 91 is the recommended octane for any diablo tune other than factory. im now assuming 91 octane in the US is like 89 for us.

Use the lowest octane you can without detonation. In other words, load the Diablo tune, run gas you think will be ok, and see if you get detonation. If you get detonation, increase octane or retard timing. Do not EVEN bother with octane boosters :notnice:

Also, octane is measured using various scientific methods. If your stations use R+M/2 method then "our" 89 equals "your" 89.

The Diablo tune increases timing. You are free to adjust it though as needed. The more timing advance the more tendency to detonate. Octane reduces tendency to detonate. So increased timing means more HP but you need higher octane to do it safely.

And remember, very hot weather above 85F will significantly increase risk of detonation as well.

It sounds like ball bearings in a can and usually occurs under heavy load such as rapid acceleration or climbing steep hills.

Where can you get 92 Octane? The only places I know of is Husky/Mohawk or private companies that buy from Husky. You do not want to run that.

87 CAN = 87 US
91 CAN = 91 US

Your car nut friends have been getting bad info.

Agreed....considering we (Canada) supply most of the fuel sent to the US, the though of theirs being of a lesser quality is an old wives tail. It's the same damn stuff. What you've probably heard are people in California complaining about their only being able to obtain 89 Octane fuel, when every other state has 91 made available, but that's about the extent of the "crappy fuel" rumor.

I run the diablo tune with full timing advance on regular gas with no detonation.(Cranked off a 13.4 with that tuneup as well,N/A)

so you have a typical diablo tune then modified it with full timing advance? on 87? any suporting mods in your car? so far, i only have a diablo tune in it then gears later on.

sorry guys, i meant 91, not 91 octane.
