I bought a used SCT X3 that was unlocked, but did not contain any custom tunes, just those from SCT. I am wondering if it is worth purchasing a 91 torque tune from Bamachips. I use the car as a daily driver, and I am looking for more throttle response.. more fun, more low end torque. How noticeable is a custom tune over a canned tune? Will this be something I would actually notice in daily driving situation? Would I be happy to depart with my 50 bucks? Or, is a custom tune really just something you notice when your adding mph to your trap speed? (i.e. only noticeable with radar guns)
The thing is, this seems like three engines in one. Below 2k rpm there is very little power. Not that surprising, but its nice to have a car that you can let off the clutch without any throttle and not stall. You can do this with the GT, but it takes some finesse. From 2k-4k the engine is nice, but not overwhelming. Then, as if there were a turbo, at 4k rpm the thing just screams. I have seen this pattern in all the dynos sheets as well, including those running custom tunes, so I am guessing a custom tune will not change the overall torque curve. But I dont think I have seen a dyno of a 93 torque tune, which may be what I am looking for. BTW, I have to get the 91 torque tune because I live in Denver and 91 is the "premium" grade up here.
