Can't decide what to do with my rear brake setup

I'm at odds as to what to do while i have my rear out for a little maintainence and paint.

Leave the SN95 cobra setup, but install ABS rings on the axles for ABS in the future.

Or swap to the north race cars brackets with fox axles (which i have) and run 9" or wider wheels in the rear, but not be able to put ABS on the car and possinly rear coil-overs

Is i stil with the SN95 rear stuff, i was going to try to put some S197 9" wheels on the rear....but they don't have as many cool choices as for the SN95.

What would Jesus do?

I would leave the Cobra rear brakes with North race car brackets & some 9" or 10" SN95 wheels....

Only reason I don't want to do that is because I really wanted to add ABS in the future.

Downside to the SN95 width rear is you are limited on 9" and 10" wide wheels....especially the typical bullitts and fr500's everyone runs.

If i can find out for sure if aftermarket S197 9" or 10" wheels fit it fine, then i would leave it as is.

Sweet baby Jebus would run fat tires in the back and only have ABS where it counts... Your steering tires.

Actually, I don't know how well that would work... Probably have some wicked oversteer when the backs lock up and the fronts are still doing their best to steer the car.

If you go with SN95 axles you can run your ABS and have S197 9" wheels and the tire will still be inside the wheel well. A regular 9" wheel with a +24mm offset will be right out to the edge and you will have to roll the quarter lip. You are limited to what wheels though. Not too many styles with S197 offsets.

Why exactly do you want ABS??

IRS will come later.

I want ABS for the same of doing it Actually i plan on autoXing the car now and then and ABS cars really do have an advantage over non-ABS cars....i don't care what anyone says

IRS will come in the future. I have tons of other stuff i need to worry about on the car first...let getting it in driveable condition, t-5 swap, freshen engine, etc.

yeah, that probably wouldnt work so well. my old 90 f150 (and most vehicles with only one abs axle) had abs just in the back, the fronts were always locking up on estops and the truck would go straight as an arrow.

personally i wouldnt bother with abs unless you drive the car in the rain a lot. thats really the only time it really helps imo.

I plan to do what a friend did on his. He had the rear narrowed 1.5" by another friend since he was putting 9" ends on it, and then he was able to use the stock length axles and stock Ford brackets with rear disc. I haven't looked at it up close, but I "should" be able to fit the ABS ring on there AND get some of the custom 9.5" deep dish Bullitt rims another guy had made for his car. Of course this is all my dreams, for when I win the lottery! LOL!

Yea, my Dad's '94 is the same way. I really don't know why they did the ABS that way, other than pickups can be really squirrely because of the offset weight.

Ha, that;s what too much work for me. I just want something simply bolt together.

I may stick with the SN95 stuff and toss the ABS rings on. ABS is important to me. I've autocrossed with cars without ABS and it is a little harder. ABS does help in that situation which is the reason why i want to adapt it to the car.

As for rims...well...i'll figure it out when it comes time for wheels. I still have my 17x8 '97 Cobras for now and a set of mismatched 17x8 bullitt wheels i've gotten from friends (two are 01-02 and two are 03-04 versions)

The two wheel ABS is bad. I remember watching 'Dateline' in the mid 90's about those two wheel ABS trucks, the non-ABS stopped a lot better; the ABS stopped longer and slid off the road most of the time. I dont know why Ford did that.

Mike, have you considered the world of non-Mustang rims with custom offsets?

oh hell yes do the irs, its not that hard according to some people, and the handling aspect of it!! already is set up for abs and has cobra's on it..

Oh i've def seen it done. But like i said it comes down to more or less finding one and then spending the tine to fit it in. I have other things to do first, so for the time being the solid rear is going back in.
