cant get bolts off that hold driveshaft to rearend

does anyone know any tricks to getting these bolts loose, i used a pipe on the end of the wrench and i still couldnt get them loose. please help!!

Usually they come loose. 12 pt. 12 mm socket, right. Have you tried heating them up?

Those bolts are usually always a pita to break loose.I haven`t tried mine yet,but an impact wrench would do the trick if you can access one.I`ve heard of guys using heat as well.
Hopefully some others have more tips for you.

what kind of heat are you talking about, i have a little portable torch would that work?

I used my foot to turn the wrench, no problem then. The wrench has to fit real good. Grab on to some part of the car and push with your foot. Just use stands and wheel chocks so you dont become thinner.

I use a way that someone on this website suggested. I soak the bolts with PB Blaster and let them sit for a little while. Next, I put the 12pt. end of a 12mm wrench on the bolt so that the opposite end of the wrench is facing the driver's rear tire. Using a floor jack, I jack up the end of the wrench. The driveshaft must be positioned so that when wrench is pushed up, it will turn and not just jack up the rear. Finally, rotate the driveshaft to get the next bolt in place. This has worked several times. I will admit my wrench is a little bent though.

Nicely done - peeps have covered about all the ideas. Or use a mix of a few (heat, Jerry's foot idea, etc).

i dunno about everyone else. but me and my friends never have or had problems getting those bolts out. Just a 12pt wrench and gave it some elbow grease...

just kick the **** out of it, works for me. Dont "push" with your foot, kick it and keep kicking it until it breaks loose. Your legs are stronger than you think. About the equivelent of hitting it with a sledge hammer.

I have not tried them for anything that tight, but I have had very good luck with Bolt-outs from Sears. They saved me a couple times.

I wouldn't use any PB Blaster on them, since you'll be stuck with the task of cleaning out the threads afterward, before using some threadlock when you put them back in. Just make sure not to use red Loctite as I found out. You think they're hard to take out now?

You'll probably have to cut/grind the heads off, and then get the remaining part out once you pull the driveshaft. They should come out fairly easily though at that point, since they won't have any torque on them.

You guys made this sound way too difficult.
The reason the bolts are so hard to get out is because they have been put in with lock-tite. The easiest way to get them back out is to heat up the bolts with your little portable torch (breaking the lock-tite bond) and then putting in some elbow grease.

By the way, don't forget to put lock-tite back on these bolts when you put the driveshaft back in....

The 2 wrench deal usually works. I've used my foot before as well. Usually I stick something in the yoke to keep it from turning- like a pry bar or big screw driver. This last time I tried PB blaster and I think it helped. I've never tried heat but it makes sense because it would melt the thread locker that Ford puts on the bolts. Good luck!
