i'm working on another shortblock 347, and i can't get the damn crank sprocket on, it goes on till about halfway and won't go any further, is it possible that the crank isn't true or the gear for that matter. I have about 2 inches of space between the block and the sprocket and i know thats not right. I'd hate for it to be my crank. Any ideas. (fms double roller timing set and a cat crank)

It might be that nothing is really wrong. It could be that you've gotten two parts that are on the high side of allowable tolerances and it's just a tight fit. Try heating the crank sprocket in an oven at about 300 or so for about 20mins and try it again while it's hot. One thing though if it won't go don't leave it on and let it cool or you'll be heating it up again to get it off. I've had to do this on a cam change. Hope this helps. Mike

i probably could hammer it on but i wouldn't be able to get it off, I know its not susposed to be this tight. yeah heating is a good idea i'll give that after i try the stock sprocket from a donor.
