cant get p/s bracket off

how do you get power steering pump off the bracket? do you have to pull the pulley?

pulley needs to come off. you then need star socket to get those bolts off.

great. now i have to wait till monday; no car parts places nearby. how about the other bracket? are there 3 bolts? how do you get to the one behind the tensioner?

Take the tensioner off. To take the accessory brackets off, you have to take a bunch of stuff off.

Just a little suggestion on the PS pulley. Take a good look at how it looks on there right now. Actually better yet, mark the front side or take a digital picture. It sounds easy, but there actually are a bunch of folks on here who have put that pulley back on backwards. Usually it is not a problem, just pull it back off and put it on the right way. But then again, I've heard some screwed the post, and had to buy a new PS pump. Anyway, just trying to help.

Two other options:

If you have a 12pt closed end wrench that you don't mind grinding to make it skinnier then you can do it without removing the pulley.

OR

I had a cheapy wrench that fit with a little prying on the pulley to get it in there. Don't pry too hard on the pulley or you will bend the pulley.

For the passenger side yes the belt tensioner has to come off to get to the three bolts that hold the bracket to the head. Disconnect the wires on the alternator and the hose from the air pump and the whole assembly will lift straight out.

If you don't use the specific puller for our cars you stand a chance of damaging the pulley when you take it off.

Also pay close attention which side is front so when you re-install you don't put it on backwards.

You can rent a puller from local parts house or they can be found on the internet for 10 to 20 bux.

That is not the specific puller you need

That is a general all purpose puller.

That one will do damage

You need a power steering pump pulley puller for a 94-95 Stang.

Look at harbor frieght on the internet for a pic or go to your local parts house and ask for the SPECIFIC puller.

damnit. the autozone said they were out of them so i stopped at sears on the way home. i got the wrong thing

oh well, i have to get the headers off anyway to get to the lower head bolts. that'll probably take a week

thats what i did, just used a thin open end and squeezed it in there

Chris the power steering pump pulley puller PN is 25298 from Autozone (Pulley Puller Installer Kit). I think I paid about $15. The one they had for rent was all jacked up. So I purchased one. The kit is an 8mm forcing screw for our cars. And no you don't unscrew it you pull it off. Oh and only use the correct tools - makes life alot easier and cheaper if you know what I mean

i will definately not use that other puller on it. and it cost like $45 too so i'll save some money too

a couple people beat me to it, but i have never removed the ps pulley when taking off that bracket. remove the other 2 bolts and just use an open end to loosen the bolt that sits behind the pulley. my craftsman open end didnt even need any grinding to fit.

I did the same thing the first few times I had to pull it off. Last time I just rented the puller though, it saved some time.

i'm pissed because there is no car parts place anywhere nearby and i am without a car because my wife's caravan is in the shop for like a week. i'm working from home.

i started with an open ended wrench, but it wasn't budging and the wrench was opening up so i gave up. maybe i'll get some better wrenches. there is a hardware store nearby, i can ride my bike there.

btw paul, did you get my pm about the heads you are selling?

if the price is right on your 185s it doesn't matter if i bought other heads or not.
