can't hit park!!!

i have a 66 fastback a-code with the original c4. the tranny shifts like a dream still but it will not go in to park so im afraid to drive it anywhere because i do not trust the emergency brake. do you guys have any idea what the problem is. maybe it is a common problem with this tranny i do not know. i got under the car and i see nothing wrong.

please help!!

Have you adjusted the linkage? If not then do that first. Disconnect the rod from the shifter lever under the car. Then move the lever on the tranny into park without the shifter hooked up. Once the tranny is in park then loosen the adjuster nut at the shifter lever and make it fit with the tranny now in park. If any of the other detents on the shifter are out of whack now then it is time to replace all the bushings in the shifter to get it back to %100.

so most likely it is just going to be a linkage adj. that is good. there would not be a problem in the tranny most likely correct. by the way everything on the shifter feels tight

I thought you were supposed to put the tranny in neutral and line it up that way? Well, that's the way I've always done it.

well if the linkage was off and stopping it from going all the way wouldn't it go into park when i shifted into reverse?

It can be off in both directions. And it only has to be off by a little bit for one of the gear positions not to function.

It is a really easy adjustment.
