Hmmm. I am doing a 2.3T swap into my 1986 Capri RS. It was an original 5.0L/5speed solid roof car.

me and my buddy went to a junk yard, they said there hatch was mint..... 35 $ so we had a feeling there was something up. we asked about the price he said its cause no one has asked for parts for those cars. any ways we show up at the junkyard. the guy tells us to follow him. so we head out side and he says wait wait get in your truck and follow. me and my buddy are like ok. mind u were in the bad area of lowlle. for you who don't know its not the best city or town. any ways we drive like 2 blocks from the junkyard, we pull up to some old mills. at this point i'am kinda freaked out and so is my buddy. the guy starts to undo the gate to this old mill and stops and say i wanna show u some thing he grabs a big rock and all i can think of is a bad horror movie . he throws it thru the window and after a sec u hear water splash. we walk up to the 3rd floor in this old mill that has no power. we find the hatch under no lie like 15 other hatches. the metal felt like newspaper and kept breaking with my index finger pooking it. i think the paint was holding it togarther and thats it. any ways we get back to the junkyard and he tells us to look in a different part of the yard on our own we find nothing . then we spot a 81 carpi(can tell by the hatch) in a diffent yard. we told the guy and he was like go ask the guy to sell the hatch. we explained it wouldnt work pluse this car was mint, must of been getting a tune up. any ways we walked out with the 4 sq intake with throttle body for 50 bucks. not bad. any ways thought u mite like this story. if u know of a hatch that is in great shape or know one that the bottom is fine on let me know.

Nice. Mine does not have the rust at all. I also had subframes welded in when it was a 5.0L. I am thinking of swapping the roof skin for a sunroof shin. To bad you don't live here. There is a guy parting out a 86 RS with very little rust.
