Car/Brakes pulling Left

My '05 GT is pulling slightly to the left, and pulling much harder when I brake. This problem has been going on for a while now...I recently got new tires, I also replaced the brakes (rotors and pads) last weekend. The problem is still there. What do you think is causing the car/brakes to pull left?

You may try an alignment, especially being it sounds like you say it pulls slightly even when driving. If the alignment is in spec and the pulling started after the new tires, try crossing them, you may have a "radial" pull.

I forgot to mention that the alignment was checked when the new tires were put on. The car has been pulling since I got it, but either its gotten progressively worse, or just gotten on my nerves more and more. So I'm pretty sure its not the alignment, its not the tires, its not the pads/rotors.

Is there an adjustment in the brake system to compensate? Could bleeding the brakes help? What about worn out tie-rods, could that be it?

I think I'd be having the alignment checked again and pay particular attention to the ball joints. Ford has upgraded them in 08 IIRC and there several posts on Mustangs forums regarding excessive ball joint wear. You may want to re-bleed the brakes just to make absolutely sure there isn't any air trapped in the system, but you didn't say anything about a mushy pedal which would be there if if air was in the system. No there isn't any adjustment for brake bias, side to side. The only thing that MAY affect side to side brake performance would be the ABS system but that is a real long shot, especially if you don't have a warning light.

Go back to alignment, especially being you say that the car has a slight pull when not on the brakes. If the alignment is not correct, braking will amplify the mis-alignment problem ie; pulling one way or the other.

On my 02 GT it would pull to the right when braking, turned out to be a faulty ABS wheel speed sensor. Never had a light show.

Have you done the rear brakes?

Update...

I bled the brakes and that didn't help...I was driving my car pretty hard today, braking very hard, causing both brakes to smoke a little. When I parked, I took a look and everything to see how it was...The left front brake was smoking, but the right front was not. I do recall that when I replaced the brakes earlier, the left front had more wear than the right front.

So, could there be something causing the left front brakes to grasp harder than the right front?


And, I haven't replaced the rear brakes, they are fine.

Uneven wear can be a result of:

• Poorly lubed caliper slides
• Sticking caliper
• Collapsing brake hose

it's a bad caliper. and if you got it smoking you also need too get your wheel bearings checked aswell. it could have cooked them. the only other thing it could be is a bad rubber brake line.
