Car bucked and died on the freeway today

Greetings,
Recently, my 94 GT (210K miles) had been having a slight miss under acceleration. I could easily notice it when I was cruising on the freeway in 5th, and just barely accelerated. The car would seem to stumble/surge slightly.
Today, I noticed after about 30 minutes on the freeway, that even if I dropped it to 4th and floored it, I had NO acceleration. The exhaust note definately increased like WOT, but no power. Shortly after noticing this, the car began violently bucking; the RPM's jumping all over the place, and the engine eventually sputtered to a halt.
I can see no obvious signs, like broken distributer cap, missing plug wires, etc., so I would like some ideas of what to check into. I can hear the fuel pump when the ignition is turned on, but it has seemd much noisier lately. The fuel filter has been replaced, but probably 60K ago.

***EDITED***

sorry, I meant that the fuel FILTER was replaced. The fuel PUMP is still the original. DOH!

Any thoughts?

Gary

toss a FP gauge on and see what you got.

pull codes - that might give you a clue.

dont overlook the TFI and other ignition components.

good luck.

Thanks all! Donjon, I definately will check the fuel pump, as I made a typo, and meant to say the the fuel filter was replaced, and the pump is still stock. Oops!

I will be checking all the standard "got to have fuel and fire" stuff, and will replace tha MAF if I can find the old one.

Thanks again!

Gary

Thanks for all the help! Turns out it was just the PIP, but I replaced the entire distributor. I went ahead replaced the ICM since they tend to go out, and my car has 220K miles, and also the coil, as my original ones' electrode was burned and pitted. I am still having a FP issue, as the pressure builds to 40 psi, but drops instantly when the car shuts off. I will test it some more soon, but I am running again.

Regards,

Gary
