Car dies when coming to a stop......

i found and fixed my vacuum leak and set the tps. idles great now. everytime i come to a stop it will die. doesnt sputter out or nothing. it will rev to about 1500 and die as the rpms drop. what could this be? it never done this with the huge vacuum leak. thanks in advance for any and all info.

I have fixed this problem several ways on several different 5.0's - 1. Cleaned the IAC very good 2. Bumped the throttle stop screw a little 3. Bumped timing up a little bit 4. Set the idle speed with the IAC unplugged -then adjusted the TPS voltage to .98 - then disconnected the battery for 15 minutes to re-set the computer and re-connect the IAC 5. Replaced the IAC -- ($55 part at local auto parts store) 6. Cleaned the MAF with electrical parts cleaner 7. Replaced the VSS 8. cleaned electrical grounds, salt/pepper shakers and other electrical connectors. 9. Pulled codes from the computer and chased down problem(s). -- There could be tons of reasons this is happening - Try the cheapest first and go from there.... It will get fixed

Mine used to do that until I replaced the HAL/PIP in the dizzy. It could be multiple things, but the above remedies will point you in the right direction, good luck.

it idles fine when i first start it, but if i drive it say to the corner and stop it will die if i dont catch it.

thanks for the reply... ive done some of those, i set the tps to .98 but did not reset the computer. ill try that in the morning. ill let you all know tomorrow.

The vac leak likely masked this issue because a leak can cause a hanging idle.

I'd go with cleaning the IAC if not done already, for starters.

i cleaned it before but i think im going to redo it. whats the best stuff to use?

carb cleaner should work well - use a q-tip and get in there good and flush it out -- make sure the car will idle good with it warmed up and the wire disconnected after you re-install it - adjust the throttle stop until you get it about 800-900 rpm with warm idle and the IAC not plugged in and then plug it in.

An alternative is to use throttle body cleaner on the IAC (it's a little more gentle but not as effective as a solvent). SOme folks swear by using WD40. I use the TB cleaner or electronic parts cleaner.
