I normally drive my car to work and back, and to my friends and back, no really long trips. Today I went on a 70 mile trip and once I get on the highway my temp gauge goes up to the M in NORMAL. Its actually between the M and A. Once I get to the place I was going and start having to slow down, stop, and start, it goes back to normal.

Check all the things that have to do with the fan. I think the ccrm on some years had a dual speed fan relay in it. It might be bad. The first thing I would do is check to see if the fan motor is working. Start with the simple things and then spend money.

If it is only an issue at speed, I would not look at the fan (if the car cools while going slow and stopped, the fan should be working). Look for something more like a slightly clogged radiator and make sure the little air dam under the car is present. It helps a little with the radiator's air flow dynamic (it's not real important, but every bit helps).

What kind of RPM do you turn on the highway? Aftermarket gears?

Good luck.

Coolant is fine, actually a little over full. But not much. And its usually around 2200-2500 once I get to about 80-85. Stock gears. The air dam isnt those two peices of plastic along the outside of the radiatior right by the air bag impact sensors is it? Cause they are fine but I was cursing them when I was putting my headlights on.

Nope - I know which ones you mean though. Wait, you got mad while installing your headlights? I had no idea.

It's the little strip that's under the car itself (it will be what gets torn off by a curb, steep driveway, etc). It helps create a low pressure area behind the radiator.

Turning those RPM might simply be more heat than the radiator can reject with that amount of load on the motor.............. But only you would be able to judge that.

Good luck.

I dont think its too many RPM's for the radiator to handle. I have driven this route many times and it never got this hot. And is the air dam the lip under the bumper?

I wonder if this is a egr problem (doubt it though). Because that is the only thing I can think of that runs at part throttle but not idle and wot.

Just out of curiousity, when you ran it on the highway, did you have the a/c on? What about when you were in the city?

I usually have the A/C off in the city but when I was on this particular trip I had it on the whole time.

And i have a chis spoiler but mine looks like its never went all the way around, just aobut 2 feet on each side.

Actually, you are missing it. The important piece is the one that goes in between those two side pieces (there is a piece that goes across the middle). It cost me about 15 bucks at the dealer or from LRS to get one. A curb and previous owner might have taken care of your old one...........

Is it doing anything else weird?

There is a second control module that regulates RPM, ABS, AC & TEMP at which the fans cycle. Mine was idling & stalling and would do this several times when cold starting in the morning, it would then allow the temp to shoot up into the M/A area as you describe, before the fans came on which is way to late to pull the heat back out.

But why would it JUST start doing this?

EDIT: Do you think taking off that black plastic radiator cover in combination with the missing dam would make it do that? I took it off to put on my lights and decided to repaint it black and do the letters blue so I havent put it back on yet.

I dont think the lack of the vanity cover above the radiator has one thing at all to do with it. I now get it about the issues just now cropping up with your cooling system. I thought it might have gotten warmer (ambiently) in recent weeks, enough-so to perhaps show a new issue. We dont know the exact situation nearly as intimately as you; the best we can do is toss out ideas, some of which you can immediately shoot down because you know better than us.

Good luck.

Yea, I have started to think that its the rise in temp around here recently. Its gets pretty hot in LA.

This is the piece. I need to get one as well. My question is .... does the type of bumper you have (GT ... Cobra ... etc.) effect anything? Does this piece still work with all bumpers?
