Just installed a 347 stroker and it is running ruff. I eliminated the evr valve, egr vacuum regulator, and thermactor solenoids. Could this be the problem and if so how can i fix it without installing those components back into the system and getting the error codes to go away? Thanks.

We will need a little more info.....

1. Descibe the "ruff"
2. What codes are you getting now?
3. How did you eliminate those things?
4. How is the fuel pressure and timing?
5. Is it running rich?
6. Is it smoking?
7. Does it stay running?

The codes im getting are 21,24,31,67,81,82,84,85 with koeo. I eliminated the thermactor solenoids by just not installing them and eliminated the egr by a new spacer and not plugging it in.

Fuel presser is between 40 and 45psi. The timing is between 12 and 14 deg.

I'm not quite sure if it is running rich. I pulled the plugs and they look clean. The o2 sensors are not connected right know. I just rebuilt it so i have not put on the h pipe or cat back. Its louder then ****. Its not smoking and it does stay running. Its idling around 2000 rpm. I check the tps and its reader around 0.9v when closed. Is it normal to idle this high?

The engine is a little shakey, but tranny is not in yet. Other wise it seems ok.

Question: There is coolant leaking from the shorter head bolts. Are you supposed to seal the threads when installing the studs?

Thanks.

Removing the emissions equipment does not make a street driven car any faster. All it does is make the computer angry and spit codes.

It seems you are a bit behind the power curve in your understanding of the computer and its sensors and actuators. Here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control or "computer" works.

Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control 1988-1993 by Charles Probst :ISBN 0-8376-0301-3.

It's about $25-$35 from Borders.com see http://www.amazon.com/ . Select boo...owthread.php?t=698148"]Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems. The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

Nice. Thanks Jrichker for your help. The car as been striped down to nothing for about 5 years now so putting it back together has been quite the challenge for me and i can use all the help i can get. I'll defiantly get that book you suggested.

For codes 21 and 24 ill be testing tomorrow. You gave a lot of info.

Codes 81 and 82: is it really necessary to plug those solenoids back in if i don’t have the smog pump running? I don’t quite understand that system.

Code 84: If i have no egr valve do i need the EGR Vacuum Regulator? I got a system to run the edelbrock victor 5.0 intake with no egr. what is the right way to run it without the egr system?

Code 85: now i know what that plug by injector one go's to. LOL I'll try hooking up that system, but if i cant, is the worst case the smell of fuel in the garage and a leaner cruse mixture?

It doesn’t seem as though my code errors are causing my high/ruff engine idle. Or am i still wrong? maybe it could be the iab not working correctly.

Do you have to apply teflon pipe dope to both sides of the engine? It seams as though its just leaking from the passenger side.

Thanks.
