I've got a 93 LX with a 306, Vortech S trim,Cobra Upper and Lower inakes, 30lb injectors, MSD Dizzy, Ford Racing red wires and a factory coil, NGK plugs gapped at .042.
The car was running great but while driving last week I was in third and all of a sudden the car lost all power, backfired and stumbled into a lot. When I gave it gas it would stumble more. As I slowed to stop, it died. The car would not start. I played with the plug wires and when I grabbed one, it was loose, it seemed like it had been shaken or blown off somehow. I rechecked them and made sure they are all seated.
I went though the crank no start check list. Coil was bench tested, its good. I've got spark at the plugs. Fuel pump primes and plugs are soaked after it crank it for a bit. Injectors are firing. I cleaned the MAF and replaced the ECT. Now it'll start on occasion but rev over 2K then drop and stumble around 500 rpms. It almost sounds like it's running on 4 cylinders. It backfired like crazy, very loudly when it first starts. It'll die soon after it starts.
It's almost as if the timing is way off or the plug wires are out of firing order although the dizzy hasn't been touched.
I looked at the harmonic balancer and it's got pretty good wobble when it was running, motor seems to shake like crazy too.
Could these problems be the balancer?
I pulled KOEO codes and got 31 and 85. I looked them up but not sure it they will have anything to do with my issues.
I couldn't get it to start for KOER codes...
EDIT I got it to start, KOER codes were 12 and 21. (It wasn't at operating temp) it started and ran up to 2K RPMs were it stayed until I turned it off.
Any suggestions?
