OK, the problem started when we were drivin down the road at about 50. It lost a huge amount of power and when I floored it nothing would happen. So we pulled over and it was idling really low, 500rpms, and shakin real bad, it was missin like crazy at idle and when I tryed to give it a little gas to bring the r's up it would miss real bad to. So we let it sit for a minute and then turned it on and it was still runnin like crap. We headed home and it was still runnin like crap then all the sudden the car was fine. For a minute. Then it was back to ***** again. It did this all the way home off and on. The other night we were sittin at a red light and for about 10 seconds the rpm's dropped to 500 and the car was shakin like crazzy. We had the music blastin and it stopped so we didn't think anything of it.The check engine light is on so we're headed to autozone tomarrow. I was thinkin one of the coil packs went bad or maybe an IAT sensor. Please let us know what it might be because we need the car everyday.

The hose to your IAC might be loose. Mine did that. While your there, clean out the IAC with some brake cleaner and let it dry before starting.

I would say bad IAC as well. try cleaning it w/ some intake cleaner (avaliable at autozone, pepboys, etc..). if that doesnt help, buy a new IAC. get it scanned to see why it is throwing a check engine light.

You need to get your codes run....find out what is going wrong.

Mine did the same thing, turns out it was a missfire on cylinder 4. Injector went bad.

And just recently my car did it again.....same cylinder....replaced the injector again....and it seems to be running ok.

Try letting the car idle. If it's running rough....start on one side and unplug an injector....see if it gets worse.....if not, then you've found your culprit.

Is it ok to clean the IAC while still attached or should you detach it first??

should be fine to clean it while its on the car, just undo the hose thats on it and hose it out. Brake cleaner is flammable, so running it through your engine in that small of an amount shouldn't be a problem. After I cleaned out my IAC I sprayed a little bit of wd40 in it, to lube it up. I have an extra IAC i will sell you. Its in storage so lemme know if you're interested. I thought it was the cause of my not so smooth idle, but it wasn't, so I wasted 60 bucks on a new one.

A bad/dirty IAC should only screw around with the idle, after that the throttle body is open. I've never heard of someone say their engine lost its power because of that.

Plus there's the fact of how it just instantly happened. I think that would rule out a dirty IAC valve as the primary culprit, since that would be a gradual build up over time. Maybe the IAC motor went to crap, but again, I don't see that affecting how the car runs, just idles.

Could be something like an injector, plug, wires (that's a distributor ignition, right?).

Come to think of it, the problem I'm having right now is when I idle AND when the throttle is open. I'll take any gear up to 2500-3000 RPMs and the car will jerk slightly, almost to a rhythm. This shouldn't be the IAC. I had the plugs replaced last year along with new wires, is it time for new plugs?

Any codes? Could be similar to TN's problem.

My engine light hasn't flashed yet, the problem really only started yesterday but it's very consistent now. I had my plugs and wires replaced last year after my light came on (which was two cylinders were misfiring). SHould I start by having the plugs replaced? It needs to go in for inspection anyway, which is a whole other story with my Prochamber.

The plugs should be fine, but it wouldn't hurt to double check things.

Maybe it's a coil pack as well. We'll see.

Yes,we did have the codes run.We took it to autozone and pu it on the diagnostics and it said that one ofthe coil packs,d&c was bad,so we bought another one and now its back to normal. It kinda acted up the other day but it just started getting worse all of the sudden.
