I have a stock 96 GT with an automatic transmission and almost 100,000 miles on the odometer. The cars runs fine, however it's been slowly running hotter and hotter over the past few months and has now gotten to the point where I'm starting to worry about overheating and damaging my engine. I started noticing this increase in operating temperature when I switched to 4.10 gears if that makes any sense (it might just be coincidence). Anyways, I've flushed the radiator and changed the coolant, but the car is still running too hot.

Any ideas or suggestions?

ever change the t-stat? Take it to the mechanic. I know my fan used to come on at just over 200 degrees with my 98 auto.

If you don't have one yet, get a transmission cooler as Engine damage isnt the only thing you have to worry about, especially on an automatic car as heat is the number 1 killer of the automatic. The 4.10 gears with their increased rpms are also only increasing the problem so I can see how that would cause the engine temp. to go up somewhat. As the other guys have said, it could be your thermostat is going bad. I'de replace it with a 180* thermostat and then flush the cooling system if that hasn't already been done. Although if you get a cooler thermostat you'll need to get the ECU flashed for it to work properly.
