Roush Car show tech?

I will be entering the Saleen at its first real car show, and it is the first car show I have entered into. I have been busily buffing the cone scuffs out of the car, but I had a couple of questions.

Do you leave your car unlocked and trunk open all the time or just during judging? I plan on bringing my saleen bag filled with Zaino detailing products for any last minute touch-ups and I really don't want it lifted by someone. I also have a RC car replica of my car that I thought about bringing and leaving in the back seat for extra attention to detail. I am very paranoid about someone taking something like my billet door locks or similar. I don't mind hanging out and watching the car while it is near being judged, but it is at a Hooters near here and I wanted to go get some grub too.

So, what should I expect and are there any tips and tricks from the car show veterans to help out this newbie?

The only part of the car I ever leave open is the hood. That's just me. Of course if someone has a vert then the top is down so be it. Every show, even at the Saleen show, I leave the car locked up with the hood open only. That's just me though.

I've done over 120 shows and I have always left the windows down, hood and hatch open and have never had anything tampered with. At car shows you get to know the guy you are parked next to and it's kind of a I'll watch yours and you watch mine. I bring a black bag full of cleaning supplies for detailing the car and spend about an hour to 1 1/2 hours after I get there being sure she's clean. I too bring an RC car but I keep it in it's carry bag and all this is just sitting with my fold up chair. I've won to date 118 awards and I can confidentally say I'm not overly concerned about theft. On a side note, put the RC car in the trunk with the trunk open, it will look better then in the back seat. The back seat gets the least noticed. just my 2 cents worth.

I've done hundreds of shows and never had anything tampered with. Now, I wouldn't leave $100 bills laying on my chair and walk away... but I often have cleaning supplies, photo albums, chairs, etc around, and no one has ever messed with any of it.

Convertible top down, all windows down, hood and trunk open. Watch the rules - some shows (MCA) require windows & tops UP, and some judged shows will dock all points for an area (trunk or underhood), if it's NOT open.

I usually spend the first two hours at the show cleaning, then take my chair & cooler in search of shade - usually have the car "within view", but not always.

Cool, thanks foxbodysaleen19 for the tip on the RC car. I have a back seat delete with a Saleen logo on it, but now that I think about it, the trunk is probably best.

I am really just worried about it or my detailing bag getting lifted.

I guess I will just play it by ear and hopefully there will be posted times for judging. One of my buddies is most likely going to go spectate so I can lock some stuff in his car.

windows down, hood up, unlocked & all my detailing stuff sitting next to my chairs & have not had any problems.

Ahhh,

You guys don't live in Southern California. My buddy had his console plaque lifted at a mustang only show that included over 200 cars. Another buddy had a shift knob stolen right off the handle. I don't know how they had time with the set screw.
Not trying to get you paranoid. Just sharing a couple of bad experiences here down near the border.
I'm sure there are plenty of West Coast guys here that have had zero probs.

Marcus, I had a friend get his intercooler off his evo stolen at an autocross that had like 90 participants.

I've had my Cobra R valve caps stolen off of my 96 cobra when I had that.

I am already paranoid.

that's just insane! I guess the shows I go to I know alot of the people and we tend to keep an eye out for one another but I hardly ever stray far from my car. I prefer to be close to the car to answer questions and talk with spectators and always keep the car cleaned as there will always be some dummy that leans into the car and puts his hands all over the door.
