Car smokes...

Ok, my 1989 LX smokes (only once in a while) when it's comming down the bottom of a big hill. Usually I'll just coast down in neutral, and then smoke will start to come out of the tail pipes(grey or white smoke not sure), which means it isnt oil. It doesnt burn any oil either. Its a built DSS 306 with about 35k on it. Ever seen anything like this before, or any ideas?? Thanks

Does it smoke at idle? when the motor is cold or if it warms up?

and TTT means " to the top" he was trying to keep the thread at the top of the thread list. Very considerate!

Oh, thanks. Well, up until today it had only smoked when I came to the bottom of a hill, now its doing it quite consistantly, and it seems like the smoke is comming out of the right tailpipe and not the left. I'm pretty sure that it's oil, because that's what it smells like and its blueish. I just changed the oil like a week ago w/ some 5w30 synthetic, but it started smoking consistantly today. I'm not sure if its related. The motor has about 40k on it, so I'm not to sure whats goin on. DSS tried to tell me that its poor crankcase ventallation, but I dont think so. Any input appricitated. Thanks

how are your valve stem seals on the heads that would be a good cause. if you come rolling down a long hill or are of the throttle the egine will produce a high constant vacuum, causing oil to get sucked through valve stem seals.what about your lower intake manifold gaskets if they start to fail oil can get sucked into the eingine there to. you could just pull the upper intake and look dwon the runners and see how everything looks on the suspected bank. running out of ideas clooged pcv is poss to you can just check the filter that is on the back of the lower intake and there is also a 2 way valve back ther make shure that isnt clogged. good luck

Ya, the more and more I think about it I think it's the valve seals. It's pretty much only on one side of the car(passenger), so I think I'll pull the heads, cut and lap the valves, and new gaskets all the way around. Thanks for your input.
