trick flow top end kit and now that it's 100 in MD it's starting to over heat.During trick flow install i had the water pump replaced and a 180 Mr Gasket thermostat installed. The top radiator hose gets hot but is very soft, the oil looks clean so i don't think it's a H/G.I thought I might have air in the system so I jacked up the front end and let it idle with the cap off for about 10 minutes. After 10 min it started gushing water out of the opening.I do not have an over flow bottle but never had a problem with it running hot before.I only have the stock guage but it climbed to nearly 250 just idling when i was trying to burp it.Any advice would be helpful and I hope I didn't F anything up by letting it get so hot.

Things to check:

1) Is the fan kicking on at 180 or at all?
2) is the belt properly routed so the water pump is turning the right way?
3) What is the temp at when it boils over?

Do you have an electric fan or a stock fan/clutch setup.

If you have the stock setup...when does the fan clutch kick in? Do you have a fan shroud installed? Do you have underdrive pulleys?

It has a factory fan with factory shroud. No underdrive pulleys. How can I tell when the fan clutch kicks in? It seems to spin at the same speed all the time to me. Should the top radiator hose be soft?

If the top hose is soft with the cap on and car hot, you either still have air in the system or a bad cap.

Sounds like you did have air in it (bubbling over). One thing I do when filling is remove the ECT sensor out of the heater pipe. As I add coolant to the radiator, I check the level of the coolant in the heater pipe. Once the level is near the top, re-install the ECT and finish filling radiator.

I aree that the overflow bottle is a likely problem to this complaint. When the coolant gets hot it expands and coolant flows into the overflow bottle. Then when it cools it contracts and coolant is drawn back in from the coolant bottle throught the vacumm valve in the cap. in your case since you don't have a coolant resevoir air could be drawn back in when it cools down. Also, you will never recover the lost coolant that goes on the ground during expansion and your level could get low.

You may have not had an issue on the old combination becasue the old combination did not produce as much heat as the current H/C/I combination? The coolant may be expanding and contracting much more than it did in the past? If this is the case then a resevoir is needed.

Put on a coolant resevoir and go from there.

Hopefully this will fix the problem.

Also it would be a good idea to get a fan shroud, it helps the fan draw air from the raidiator and not everywhere else, or better yet get a Taurus or Mark VIII electric fan.

And do you have the air deflector under the car; it helps the car stay cool at highway speeds.

haha. i was going to say overflow bottle but everyone beet me to it. yeah, i have never had to bleed the air out the system. just make sure you fill as much as you can then just keep adding coolant to your overflow till it stops sucking it out of there.
