When I try to start my 89 gt is runs for half a second then cuts off, I am pretty sure it is the fuel pump because I can't hear it come on when I turn the key. How do I tell if it is getting power? Also since I will probably need to get a new one should I go ahead and upgrade to a larger one while I am at it? Also would I need to buy an adjustable fuel regulator, what should be the highest volume to go to on the pump.

thanks in advance for any help.

im confused. you say you dont hear the FP prime, which suggests an electrical problem in the Pump circuit. but then you ask about fuel hardware....

first thing: pull codes. when the car wont start, check for spark. you dont even know for sure that it is fuel related. you can check pressure on the fuel rail.

check your inertia switch. find the FP relay and you can test the terminals to see what (if anything) you are missing.

if you search for Jrichker's no start checklist, you will get a lot of info, which is systematic, rather than my ramblings.

good luck.

Sorry for the confusion Hissin50, but I just assumed that it was the fuel pump, and if I had to replace it I thought that it would be better to upgrade, since I plan to mod it the future. The other question was would I need and adjustable fuel pressure regulator to work with an upgraded fuel pump.
