car will not start from key, but can jump the solenoid

I have been putting this car together and I finally got the thing fired today. I've been jumping the solenoid, but I finally got around to trying the key and it wont work. The switch works in the "ON" position, but the wire that goes to the S terminal on the starting solenoid wasn't getting 12volts when I was cranking. I'm trying to track down the wiring under the dash but I have ZERO room under there to even see anything.

What could the problem be here? I've been messing around with this all day with no luck.

I never even thought of that.

the transmission is in park, but where is the switch located? Is there anyway I can just bypass it?

The switch is located at the tranny selection lever on the tranny. The S wire goes to the solinoid via this switch. There is a difference in the switches between the early cars and the later cars, but I don't remember when the cut off is. Yes, you can bypass it (mine is because it is a 1970's tranny and the switch is upside down), but be mindfull that it probably won't get passed an inspection. I had mine in an exhaust shop and the mechanic almost launched my car of the hoist in the raised position when he started the car with it in drive.

Good job man, you could have just put it in neutral and it shoulda cranked i beleave

didnt have a shifter, and I think I might have a FMX also

Yeah, that’s why mechanics hate my car. Need to get that neutral safety switch fixed.
