Car is a 04 mach with auto trans. Car starts fine but idels at about 2,500 rpm and when you drive it will not shift out of first gear.
Dont know if it has anything to do with it but my girl drove the car through about a foot of water the other night. Car ran fine for 3 days after then today is when the problems started.

Possible TPS problem. Also make sure the wires on the trans for the speedo are tight & dry. The TPS, speedo, & trans work together.

Thanks big show. Where is that located on the car. I dont know mustangs that well.

The speedo plug is located on the drivers side of the trans near the tail shaft around the cross member area. The TPS should be located on the side of the throttle body directly across from the throttle cable. It should be mounted with two small screws or trqs head bolts with one plug connected to it.

Also check the TR sensor on the trans linkage. If that where bad it would fail safe into 1st or 4th. Limp mode. Do you have a check engine light on? I can look at the work shop manual if you still haven't figured this out and give you a hand on it via online. Let me know. Cert. ford tech.
