Carb question

Ok guys...I have read the recent which carb posts...

I was looking through summit looking at carbs...

I regretably cannot afford the demon carbs...that will go on my wish list...

If I spring for the Holley over the edelbrock...

which holley??

There seems to be half a million different holley's

I have 289 bored .030 mild cam going with Performer 289 intake...

If your going to buy a carb now, why spend money on a holley or edlebrock and then buy a demon later that just seems like added expense. Why not get buy with what you have now until you can afford a demon if that is what you really want. I mean holley and edlebrock are both great carbs but if you really want a demon I would save for it.

If you have an automtic trans, then the Holley list 80457 is what you want. If you have a std trans, and you want better mileage over performance, then the list 1850 will work. If you prefer performance over mileage, then the list 6776 will do you. The first 2 are vacuum sec, 600cfm carbs, the last is a 600 cfm double pumper ( mechanical sec, carb) If you get a vac. sec carb, then plan on also ordering a sec spring kit to change the one Holley puts in them to a lighter one.

Well...

1st I have a 2bbl that needs rebuilding and I cannot seem to get in tune...

2nd I want a 4bbl and the edelbrock performer 289 intake therefore I need a 4bbl carb

3rd I do not have the money for the demon...2x the cost of the holley from what I have seen.

4th it will stay on the wish list for '06 mods to the car

5th every dollar I spend on the engine reduces money for paint and such...

Well if money is tight, then just buy a Holley list 4412 500cfm 2 bbl. That carb is a bolt on swap for the 2 bbl intake and will net you the same performance that a 600 cfm carb will do. I've picked them up used for as little as $65, new ones run about the same price as the new list 1850 600 cfm Holley, only you don't have to spend more money on the intake, gasket set and oilchange.
